Bottom Processing Machine

BackgroundPrimarily used in the process of forming the bottom of paper packaging bags, the machine is question runs at a speed of 48 m/min under stable feeding conditions. It shapes the bag body, applies adhesive to the bottom of the paper bag, folds it, compresses it and then outputs the product.

 

 


The Challenge

The packaging bottom processing machine needs high accuracy control, particularly of the adhesive spray. The OEM was seeking a motion control solution capable of delivering the high performance and low error rate it required. During the adhesive spraying process, at a near right angle of 1:10, technology from FLEXEMATiC was used to achieve a spray position error rate of ±1 mm, while ensuring no deformation in the spray.

The Solution

A FLEXEMATiC 16-axis EtherCAT FL8-E16-D controller with FR-D1600 and FR-D0016N expansion modules was paired with 4 units of FLEXEMATiC FV5-U3 series rotary servos to enable the machine to run at a speed of 48 m/min, with rapid acceleration and deceleration, and no overtravel. The main belt EAM series rotary servo motor has power of 1.3 kW, with the remaining motors at 750 W. A FLEXEMATiC FS610R IoT touchscreen was added with support for tags and IoT functionalities.
