Pin Insertion Machine
Background
The customer is an OEM with a pin insertion machine, used for electronic connectors. The automated assembly equipment is primarily used for the accurate insertion of electronic components, such as pins, into the plastic housing of connectors (known as male or female headers) to form complete connector assemblies.
The Challenge
With a rapid and stable insertion rate required, and high precision needed for electronic components, speed and accuracy is crucial. The OEM was looking for a high value motion control solution that achieved the required performance and stability.
The Benefits
FLEXEMATiC solution helped to optimize performance, including cutting curves and cutting paths, increasing the operating speed of the virtual spindle to achieve stable operation of 4 pcs/s. The solution offers a range of advantages over similar technology from competitors to optimize costs. Additionally, the use of the FancEasy IoT HMI for remote monitoring of equipment data reduced the overall cost of integrating the IoT solution into the machine.
The Solution
The customer selected a 16-axis EtherCAT + Pulse Axis type FL8-E16-D controller from FLEXEMATiC, paired with FR-D1600 and FR-D0016N expansion modules. This is combined with 11 FLEXEMATiC FV5-U3 servo drives, with power ranges from 100 W to 750 W.
